30 Days of Demanding the Change: Day 10

Invite members of your family and/or friends to a dinner or lunch with discuss the issue of sexual violence and prevention.

Our families, communities, and peer groups play a role in normalizing the sexually toxic environment when they reinforce sex role stereotypes and attitudes that condone the use of violence.  Consider bringing members of your family and/or friends together to talk about such stereotypes and attitudes that have become normal or no big deal.  Inspire a change of heart by linking the role of our actions to preventing sexual violence.  When we challenge such attitudes and behaviors, we are setting a new social norm.  Let’s inspire a change of heart by setting a new social norm supportive of gender that models equality and respect.

You can connect with your local rape crisis center to view “Stop Sexual Violence: Listen and Lead” for your dinner or lunch.  This video is designed to not only raise awareness on this issue, but to engage community members in the prevention of sexual violence.  This video can serve as a guide as you introduce the concept of sexual violence prevention to your family and friends.

You can demand the change and inspire a change of heart that is supportive of gender equality.
