30 Days of Demanding the Change: Day 30

Continue to demand the change!

Today is the last day of Sexual Assault Awareness Month as well as the daily blog entries for 30 Days of Demanding the Change.  Over the past 30 days, we have unpacked pieces of the environment, explored resources, AND learned situations when Minnesotans choose to demand the change.  While we have done a lot over the last month, there is still much work to be done.

Today isn’t the last day that I am going to choose to demand the change.  It doesn’t have to be the last day that you choose to demand the change or inspire a change of heart.  Together, we can decide that April 2012 is just the beginning.  Let’s continue the work.  We can continue the dialogue, support one another, and ACT!  We can demand the change and put an end to sexual violence in Minnesota.

Learn more about The Campaign for Commercial-Free Childhood and participate in Screen-Free Week.

The Campaign for Commercial-Free Childhood is a national coalition of health care professionals, educators, advocacy groups, parents, and individuals devoted to limiting the impact of commercial culture on children.  Part of their mission includes:

A marketing-driven media culture sells children on behaviors and values driven by the need to promote profit rather than the public good.  The commercialization of childhood is the link between many of the most serious problems facing children, and society, today.  Childhood obesity, eating disorders, youth violence, sexualization, family stress, underage alcohol and tobacco use, rampant materialism, and the erosion of children’s creative play are all exacerbated by advertising and marketing.

From April 30 – May 6, children, families, schools and communities will participate in Screen-Free Week .  Inspire a change of heart and join this national celebration dedicated to turning off commercial influence and turning on life.
